About Helping Hands ~

a group of young Canby area pre-teen, teens and college students

It all began, one sunny afternoon in summer of 2006, Brittnee Webber, founder of Helping Hands with a couple other middle school friends, Casey and Cody, dined at McDonald's in Canby.  They noticed a flyer for a family in need of raising funds to get a deceased family member back to Mexico and what really got these youths attention was how empty the fundraising container was.  Brittnee knew the Canby Community had much more loving support than what she saw in that container.

So instead of going back to the tennis courts, computer and video games they'd planned for that afternoon - they got on their walking shoes and canvassed a local neighborhood (with permission from their parents).  In two hours they raised $200 (and later had McDonald's match these funds).

Brittnee and her friends, Casey, Cody and Nicole felt such a 'good-citizen' feeling that they've worked the past 10 months on forming, organizing tasks and finding a local charity group that would support them.  Canby Livability Coalition adopted Helping Hands in March 2007 and together these two organizations look forward to what they can bring for the future livability of Canby.
